Our Monitors/Prefects Program was originally initiated to bolster our positive discipline and character development mission of Dasmesh Punjabi School. It promoted school spirit and leadership amongst students, and had the direct support of our Police Liaison Officer,School Administration and Counsellors. This helped to build an anti-bullying atmosphere. Students could approach their prefects/monitors as well as their teachers if they felt something was not right. The monitors were trained to "become part of the solution." The atmosphere of "inside safety" added to our school's mission of a maximized positive learning environment.
In January 2011, this Program took on a new andfuller dimension with the integration of the Rick Hansen Program under Mrs. Parm Ghag, our Grade 6-1 teacher. Now there will be a focused approach to leadership training as well as the other objectives of the Program.
At the annual Pledge Ceremonyheld for students, staff andparents, our former students, community role models, and law-keepers such as our Police Liaison Officer and RCMP Officers are invited to be guests of honor. In 2009 and 2011, RCMP Officers, Gurbir Singh Atwal and Gurcharan Singh Tiwana, respectively, made our Pledge Ceremony memorable with their dignified presence. They recognized and took photos with all the prefects and head prefects.
For the current year, the Ceremony takes place in the school gym on Feb.13, 2012 with our current Police Liaison Officer, Const. Robyn Lamarche. This occasion is linked with the advanced celebration of Flag Day which falls on Feb. 15.
