Dasmesh Punjabi School Co-curricular and Extra-Curricular Programs

Policy and Procedures:

Learning cannot and does not end with the School bell. The Dasmesh Punjabi School Board recognizes the key role of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the School’s complete educational program.

For the purposes of this Policy, co-curricular activities would be those that would grow out of and be extensions of the regular curriculum.  Extra-curricular activities would be those that would contribute to the spirit of the school and the personal growth of the student.

These activities will normally take place during the lunch hour, after-school, or weekends.

All activities, including student-led activities, would be directly under the supervision of a teacher or employee of the school, or a member of the alumni/an adult with permission from the School Principal/ Board.

Participation for these activities will be encouraged, from parents/grandparents former students/alumni and will be related to the educational programs where these volunteers can bring their special talents to our school.

Staff volunteers will, first, help enhance the learning that takes place in their own subject area that they are assigned to teach.  In cases of unavailability of eligible teacher volunteers, the Homeroom Teacher (HRT) can act as co-ordinator, if they see a need for a particular activity for their students. In such a case the HRT may enlist the help of parents with expertise, peer tutors/alumni and, failing this, other staff members who do not compromise their contribution to their own subject area by taking responsibility for an activity outside their curriculum area. The HRT will remain in charge if a peer tutor is the instructor.

For any activity outside regular school instructional time (8:30-3:00) or school parameters, all the relevant forms will be completed. These include the Parent Information Form and the Parent Consent / Waiver Forms.

All clubs and activities must be well-organized, and properly supervised, according to professional school standards and expectations.

Normal school rules will apply to all these programs.
