RATIONALE

According to 2008 I.R.P., Physical Education is a required area of study with a recommended time allotment of 10% of instructional time. The aim of the PE curriculum is to enable all learners to develop knowledge, movement skills, and positive attitudes and behaviours that contribute to a healthy, active lifestyle.

GOALS

  • Students will participate daily in physical activity
  • Students will develop appropriate knowledge and skills for participating actively, effectively, safely, and responsibily in a wide range of individual and dual activities, games, and rhythmic movement activities.
  • Students will develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable them to value, attain, and maintain a healthy, avtive lifestyle.

 


ORGANIZERS

The curriculum for PE 8-10 is arranged under three organizers:

  1. ACTIVE LIVING: Knowledge and Participation 
  2. MOVEMENT SKILLS
  3. SAFETY, FAIR PLAY and LEADERSHIP

TIME ALLOCATION

Grade 9 and 10:     3 blocks per week, 60 minutes each


UNIFORM

1. Dominant Grey T-shirts (with or without school mascot), Dominant Blue or grey shorts or gym strips, socks and runners (indoor and outdoor)
2. Avoid wearing jewels. Earrings should be taped.
3. Kirpans for religious symbols should be tucked inside
4. Students without proper Gym strips will not be allowed to play

EVALUATION


Each theme will last about 6 weeks. At the end of each theme, an assessment will usually be given.
Assessment
Grade 8-10 assessment within the psychomotor, cognitive and affective domains will be held after the completion of each unit.


Marks Allocation will be as follow:

Extra bonus marks (5% for each activity, max. 10%) will be given to students for participating in organized sports or extra curricular activities like inside/outside school teams.
That could add up to 110%.  The purpose is to encourage students to get a better grade by engaging more personal time in sports activities.
Participation (including Attendance) and Behaviour (including leadership and sportsmanship) Percentage will be assessed by Teacher's observation in class. Skills will be assessed objectively through norm reference tests.

Students who miss their PE classes for an extended period of time (e.g. sick, injury, or leaving aboard) or unable to take the skills tests will be given an "I".
