The role of the library in the school is to support all aspects of the curriculum as well as to provide materials for recreational reading. Our school library’s collection is successfully managed by the new library electronic program called “Destiny”. With this new program, our students and faculty will notice a positive difference, especially the search function. Announcement by the library: Access to Library Catalogue Students can login to the library catalogue to see what is available in the library and can also access their library record. Students would use their user name and password same as they are using in the computer lab. Example: Username- First name. Last name Password- Last name with three digits (as provided to them) Access Levels With some limits according to the pattern type. Searches - Basic Search

Destiny Quest Students would enjoy browsing library catalogue with colourful title images. The library catalogue can be accessed through the system, “Destiny Quest” under : Ø What’s available? Ø What’s new? (for this, use ‘Quest home’ tab) Ø Awards for that book Ø Reviews for that book
My list Students can make some lists for their own use and may make their lists as public or not public. Title Peek- New and Exciting Title Peek displays the following information : - Image of the book cover

- First chapter or excerpt
- Published reviews
Users/ Students can also read the reviews by other users and can also add their own review for that title. E-Books Many new resources have been added to the library collection. Very soon, our school library would provide the “E-Books” facility. Hours: 8am-4pm Monday-Friday Each grade and division has its own library block once a week. The homeroom teachers spend time in the library with their classes to assist individual students with research. Material: Books, magazines, non-printed material(cds, DVDs, and videos may be borrowed by the teachers.)be borrowed by the teachers.) Reference Material: Dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks, maps, atlases, biographies, almanacs. Punjabi Books/ Sikh Studies Literature We are in the process of enhancing our Punjabi library section. Dual languages (Punjabi/English) books based on Punjabi language, literature and sikh religion have been introduced. French Language and Literature Our French section has been extended to meet the requirements of all grades from K-7. Library computers: Only to be used for research work. NO video games allowed. NO emailing, instant messaging Borrowing policy: Kindergarten-Grade 3 : 1 book/week Gr 4-10: 2 books/ week If additional material is required for classroom research, the students may borrow more than the usual allowance of books. Length of borrowing time: 2 weeks The item may be renewed by the librarian if there is no hold for that item. Students can place hold for any items that are currently checked out to someone else. Late charges for books- $.50/week For Magazines: see note near magazine section of the library If the material is lost or damaged, the replacement cost has to be paid. Lunch Hour Schedule during (Intermediate Grades) Students can also use the library for silent reading and silent research during the lunch hour, four days a week. To be able to do this, the students must have written permission from their teachers. Before working or researching in the library, the students are expected to show the permission slips provided by their teachers. Library computers will enhance students’ opportunities for research. Networking has been done within the computers to help the staff and students consult the library catalogue. Monday - Gr.4 -Gr.6 (5 students from each class: maximum 30 students) Tuesday- Gr. 9.1, 9.2 Thursday- Gr 7-Gr 8 ( 5 students from each class: maximum 20 students) Friday - Gr 9 and Gr 10 - Computer usage is based on first come first serve basis.

If any student needs help with finding library materials, he/she may ask the librarian. Students are expected to be controlled and follow all library rules. Students are not permitted to bring in any food, beverages or gum to the library. Mrs. Jagjit Chaina School Librarian Scholastic Book fair The Scholastic Book Fair was held on Friday, January 22 which coincided with Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s birthday celebration. The students anxiously await this event every January. All students from Kindergarten to Grade 10 participated. Thank you to everyone who supported this worthwhile literacy event, especially the students, parents, grandparents and teachers. Also a big thanks to all the volunteers that helped to make this a huge success. We made a total of $3336.33, with $2178.96 going directly to our school library! Thank you for support.
