The Green Team at DPS:
A small group of volunteer students work for the Green Team at Dasmesh Punjabi School. Our mission is to reduce garbage produced in our school to a minimum. We compost, we recycle and we return all beverage containers in order to reduce the burden on our landfills. We like to take care of our planet.
Facts:
- The Lower Mainland sends 500, 000 tonnes (that is1000 000 000 pounds) of garbage every year, to Cache Creek landfill site.
- The city of Abbotsford pays $70 per ton. These are our parents' tax dollars. In future, we might be paying lot more due to inflation.

Above items must be recycled in a blue bag.

Above items must be returned at the bottle depot for refund.

Above items must be composted or thrown in garbage.
Leaves are picked up by the city of Abbotsford, as yard waste.

Avoid or cut down their use.
Please use paper cups and paper plates instead of Styrofoam.

Tips:
- Toys can be donated or recycled (if broken), instead of throwing in garbage.
- Most of the plastic products can be recycled in Blue Bag, as long as they are not greasy.
- Use reusable containers instead of zip-lock bags.
- Avoid using clear plastic wrap because it cannot be recycled.
- When using aluminum foil, line it with wax paper. You may reuse foil. If not, recycle in Blue bag.
Please recycle following items in a Blue Bag:
- News paper
- Milk jugs (rinsed and drained)
- Paper
- Cardboard boxes
- Metals
- Electronics
- Aluminum foil
- Bottles
- Newspaper or any other paper ( should not have your address or account numbers)
- Plastics
- Batteries
- Ink cartridges
- Chocolate and snack bar wrappers
Please return empty beverage containers to Bottle Depot and get your deposit back. |
